Enhancing Engagement And Driving Thought Leadership For The Amputee Coalition Through Strategic Communications
Anthology had the privilege of leading full-service communications support for the Amputee Coalition in 2021. We were brought on as the prime communications contractor to research, develop, and implement a comprehensive, organization-wide communications plan.
With nearly 2 million Americans living with limb loss and limb difference and another 28 million at risk, it was clear the Amputee Coalition needed strategic, audience-driven communication to strengthen its connection with key stakeholders. Through in-depth research—board member interviews, asset reviews, audience analysis, and competitive benchmarking—we developed a strategic plan that focused on three core areas: content, collaborators, and thought leadership.
The goal was simple yet strategic: to better engage the community, elevate the Amputee Coalition’s position as the leading voice for its community, and identify opportunities for impactful partnerships. Our efforts encompassed updating and repurposing communication materials, activating thought leadership by engaging key organizational leaders, and identifying partnerships with aligned organizations.
Just as implementation was underway, leadership changes shifted priorities. Thankfully, our research empowered us to pivot quickly. We launched a CEO listening session campaign, optimized social media strategies to keep audiences informed, and developed an outreach campaign and materials for the Amputee Coalition’s first in-person national conference in three years.
When we began, registration numbers were alarmingly low—only one-seventh of what was expected. Through targeted webinars, retargeting ads, and strategic social media efforts, we drove steady increases. The result; registration exceeded expectations, climbing from just 200 registrants 60 days out to over 700 by the final count.
Social media performance also soared: engagement increased by 107% compared to the previous year, and the Amputee Coalition gained 200 new followers during this period.
Beyond these efforts, we facilitated seven listening sessions to strengthen connections, developed and executed strategic outreach campaigns and launched the Ambassadors and Community Champions program to expand grassroots engagement within the community.
Anthology Communications’ strategic adaptability and integrated communications expertise supported the Amputee Coalition’s goals, navigating leadership transitions, strengthening audience engagement, and exceeding conference objectives. Our collective work is ensuring the Amputee Coalition continues its mission to enhance quality of life, improve patient care, and prevent limb loss across diverse communities.
